I'm using Pagemaker 7 and would like to be able to use the little paintbrush, as is seen in WORD and other programs, to do font changes. Direct answer would be appreciated, especially if there IS a way.

The way to manage your styles is to use the style palette.

These styles operate on paragraphs, not at character level.

There's no "format painter" in PM; PM is (very old) page layout software, not a typewriter-based word processor.

Or you could switch to InDesign, in which the Eyedropper does exactly what
you want. BTW, exactly what is a "typewriter-based" word processor.

Pages/Documents can only be created by starting in the top left hand corner, and progress is then serial from that point.

They are not blank canvases where pictures or blocks of text can be placed anywhere on any page, and then scaled, rotated or moved.
